Encouraging Good Study Habits

It is always wise to start early in teaching young children good study habits. Not only should parents tell their children to read and do their homework everyday, but they should also encourage them in other ways. One of which is by allocating a special place in the house where it is most conducive to learning.

To save time in looking for a space to have a study room, what parents can do is specific a corner of the child's room to be his or her private study area. The most important thing to consider is the size of the room. It should be big enough to accommodate a study table, chair and a computer unit, perhaps. Use furnishings that makes the child most comfortable. There are children who are more comfortable lying down, so you might want to consider using bean bags instead of hard furniture to save more space in the area.

If the space allows it, you can use room dividers to isolate that study area from the rest of the room. This is also to avoid having anything that can distract the child's concentration. Make sure you use furniture that are child appropriate so children to make the space appealing to them and so they will be more comfortable using them. Smaller bookcases may be used, just as long as it does not take up so much room. Lighting is also quite crucial. Use lighting that are not too bright and does not hurt the eyes.

Place cute, decorated storage boxes for paper, colouring materials, pencils, and the like with labels on them so children will also learn to organise their things. Hang posters of varying information like alphabet, animals, colour wheel, multiplication table, etc.

Most importantly, work out a study schedule that the child is willing to follow and stick to.
